Do you love the idea of living right next to a lake? You’ll be happy to hear that the U.S. is home to way more lakes than you may have ever imagined.
According to Michigan State University researchers, America’s lower 48 states feature almost half a million lakes. Texas (43,000+ lakes), Florida (35,000+ lakes), and Georgia (32,000+ lakes) are the three states with the most lakes — but even states like Maryland with very few lakes still have well over 100.
If you’re ever lucky enough to live near a lake, make the most of the experience by putting together the perfect lakeside home. These seasonal decor ideas will have you falling in love with your lakeside home more and more each day.
Summer Sunshine
It doesn’t matter if you live next to a lake in Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, or one of the many other states known for their great lakes. The summer will be, hands down, the best time of the year for those who own lakehouses.
Why not take your lakeside home to the next level by sprinkling summer decor throughout it? Whether you choose a nautical theme, a Fourth of July theme, or multiple themes that you change every few weeks, your whole house should feel like a ray of sunshine all summer long.

Spring Spectacular
While it’s tough to top living next to a lake in the summertime, we would argue that spring comes in a close second as far as the best season for lakeside homeowners is concerned. It’s also the second-best season when it comes to injecting seasonal decor ideas into a house that sits next to a lake.
Brighten up the interior of your lakehouse with daffodils and other brightly colored flowers by sprinkling bouquets throughout it. Stock up on “Spring Has Sprung!” signs and other items that symbolize spring, such as bird nests and additional things that remind you of nature’s big return.
Easter Extravaganza
Can’t wait until the start of spring to begin brightening up your lakeside home? Then we suggest putting out Easter-themed decor starting at the end of February to make it feel like spring has arrived even earlier this year.
You’ll likely find that it’s almost as fun decorating your lakehouse for Easter as it is decorating it for Christmas later in the year. It allows you to decorate the interior and even the exterior of your lakeside home with Easter eggs, bunnies, and as many flowers as you want. Your house by the lake will be the place to be for Easter dinner.
Autumn Ambiance
Fall has quickly become the most popular season in the U.S. — a recent survey showed that 45% of Americans consider it their favorite season, with summer coming in a distant second with just 24% of the vote — and it isn’t hard to see why. Autumn is yet another time of the year that makes it so simple for people to decorate their homes.
If you live near a lake, there’s a good chance it’s surrounded by all the most wonderful symbols of fall, such as leaves that have fallen off trees and acorns strewn about all over the place. Why not bring some of these symbols into your home to make it feel fall-ish inside, too?
Few things are better than sitting by a crackling fire on the first chilly day in the fall with football on the TV and fall decor all over the place. It’ll remind you once again why you love your lakeside home so much.
Holiday Haven
The holiday season truly is the most wonderful time of the year. Whether you plan to spend Christmas at home this year or head to someone else’s house, your lakeside home should be covered from top to bottom in as much holiday decor as you can find.
Your Christmas tree should, of course, stand at the center of your lakehouse’s holiday decor. But you can also jampack the rest of your home with tinsel, garland, Christmas lights, and whatever else you can get your hands on.
Winter Wonderland
Sadly, the holiday season will have to come to a close at the end of December, but that doesn’t mean you need to pack up your seasonal decor and stop decorating until spring. You can keep some of your holiday decor up and invest in other winter-themed decor to set the stage for a winter wonderland in your lakeside home.
Putting away our boutique Christmas decor is usually bittersweet since heading into the new year is always a joyous occasion, even though we hate leaving the holidays behind. But with the right winter wonderland decor, you can keep the joy and magic of the holiday season alive right through the start of the new year and its first couple of months.
